How to Improve Liver Health

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body, responsible for a variety of crucial functions that keep us healthy. One of its most important roles is aiding in digestion. The liver produces bile, a substance that helps break down fats in the small intestine so they can be absorbed by the body. Bile is stored in the gallbladder and released into the small intestine when needed.

The liver also helps regulate blood sugar levels by converting excess glucose into glycogen, which is stored in the liver and muscles. When blood sugar levels drop, the liver releases glycogen back into the bloodstream to maintain proper glucose levels.

Additionally, the liver helps remove toxins and other harmful substances from the body. It filters the blood that comes from the digestive tract, removing any toxins or waste products before they can reach other parts of the body. It also plays a role in breaking down medications and other substances, making them easier for the body to eliminate.

Here are some of our tips when it comes to maintaining healthy liver function:

  1. Eat a balanced diet: A healthy diet is crucial for liver health. Foods high in fat and sugar can strain the liver, while nutrient-rich foods like leafy greens, fruits, whole grains, and lean proteins can protect it. High sugar diets can lead to a ton of issues and even cause fatty-liver.

  2. Limit alcohol consumption: Excessive alcohol consumption can damage the liver. Try to limit your drinks during the weekdays, and then enjoy a glass of whatever you'd like (I'd probably choose a refreshing Aperol) with company. After a long week, you deserve it!

  3. Exercise regularly: Exercise helps improve circulation and liver function. Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week. Walking is great and is a movement that we should all incorporate, but strength training is the most important way for us to support our body. You can start with some free youtube videos and go from there.

  4. Stay hydrated: Drinking enough water flushes toxins from the body and reduces the liver's workload. Aim for at least eight glasses per day. We also love having our herbal teas as a sense of hydration. Not only are you getting your water in, but you are also getting in tons of therapeutic nutrients from the herbs.

  5. Get enough sleep: Lack of sleep can strain the liver. Aim for seven to eight hours of sleep per night. Struggling with sleep? Try our bloat tea. It's not just great for bloat - many of our customers love it as a relax aid.

  6. Drink our Detox tea. This formula consists of incredibly supportive and nutritive herbs to gently enhance the liver on a daily basis.

Overall, the liver plays a crucial role in maintaining our overall health, including digestion. Eating a healthy diet, limiting alcohol consumption, and avoiding tons of sugar can all help keep the liver functioning properly and aid better energy, digestion, skin and sleep. By taking care of our liver, we can ensure that our bodies are able to properly digest food and eliminate waste, leading to better overall health and well-being.
